History

The first church was established in 1894 as part of the Vijatheeya Mission of St. Mar Gregorious of Parumala. In 1896, the parishioners of Manarcadu church, residing at Areepparempu and Amayannoor, established it as a chapel. In 1903, H.B. Pulikkottil Mar Joseph Dionysius V, Malankara Metropolitan, declared Vadakkanmannoor as an independent Edavaka in the name of St. Thomas and Fr. Vattakkunnel Cherian Kurian Kathanar was appointed as the first vicar.


On Makaram 1, 1904, V. Rev. Fr. Kochuparambil Paulose Ramban (later Mar Coorilos Metropolitan) laid the foundation stone of the first permanent church. This church was consecrated by H. B. St. Vattasseril Mar Geevarghese Dionysius VI, Malankara Metropolitan along with H. G. Pampady Mar Kuriakose Gregorious Episcopa on Makaram 1, 1932.


The foundation stone of the present church was laid on July 3, 1983 by H. H. Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews I, Catholicose of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, son of the founder vicar Fr. Vattakkunnel Cherian Kurian Kathanar , baptized at this church on May 12, 1907. It was consecrated by His Holiness along with H.B. Mathews Mar Coorilos Metropolitan (Catholicose Designate), H. G. Thomas Mar Themothios Metropolitan and H. G. Mathews Mar Bernabas Episcopa on December 29, 1984.

At present, Vadakkanmannoor St. Thomas Orthodox Church, popularly known as Vadakkanmannoor pally , has about 600 families residing mostly in Areepparembu and Amayannoor, as members. All spiritual organizations like Sunday school, Marthamaiyam Samajam, Youth League, Prayer Groups, Balasamajam, Divyabodhanam etc. are functioning effectively. This parish contributed 16 priests and 2 nuns to Lord's service, out of which 3 priests entered into eternal rest.

 
Besides fulfilling the spiritual needs of the parishioners, Vadakkanmannoor pally , delivering its social commitments through various charity and social services. Not only the parishioners, but the entire community around, firmly believe that the intercession of St. Thomas, the Patron Saint of the Vadakkanmannoor pally , who is locally known as Muthappan , is very powerful and effective. Hence, Vadakkanmannoor pally is a Common Entity for all the people around governed under the 1934 constitution of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
